Kia EV5 concept revealed
Kia Motors unveiled the EV5 electric SUV concept today to expand its electric vehicle lineup and accelerate its position in the zero-emission vehicle market. The Kia EV5 concept is a preview of what to expect from Kia’s next-generation all-electric SUV, due out later this year.
Kia Motors is a brand that has truly reinvented itself in the new era of electric vehicles. It has been experimenting with green transportation options for years, with models like the 2014 Soul EV.
However, the latest generation of electric vehicles has taken the brand to new heights. Kia ditched the Compliance Soul EV for the upgraded Niro Crossover EV.
In addition, in May 2021, Kia Motors launched the EV6 based on the E-GMP platform, a dedicated platform for electric vehicles of the Hyundai Motor Group.
The EV6 has been a hit so far, selling over 80,000 units last year, putting Kia on the map as a legitimate EV contender with a range of up to 310 miles.
Kia went a step further and released the EV9 SUV last week after months of testing. The EV9 is the company’s first seven-seater and will become the brand’s flagship EV when sales begin later this year.
Kia Motors unveiled its latest electric SUV concept, the EV5, a week after the launch of the EV9.

Kia took the sheet off its latest EV to join the brand’s rapidly expanding portfolio at Kia Chinese EV Day.
Influenced by the same “opposite integration” design philosophy that was instilled in the EV9 SUV, the Kia EV5 offers an interesting glimpse into the brand’s future electrification plans.
Karim Habib, Executive Vice President of Kia Global Design Center, said at the presentation:
The Kia Concept EV5 is inspired by the contrast and complementarity of the natural landscape and man-made architecture. Designed to inspire customers on every journey while providing sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions. Created for those who are creative and in search of new ideas, the SUV combines an emotive form language with an innovative and user-oriented interior structure.
The Kia EV5 will be the compact electric crossover alternative to the highly anticipated EV9 SUV. It will be 2 rows instead of 3 rows, but it is difficult to grasp the sense of size from the image.
Kia hasn’t released specs yet, but it’s likely to feature the same 800V E-GMP platform as other new Hyundai and Kia models, offering high-range capabilities, ultra-fast charging and V2L.
The interior is somewhat futuristic, and Kia claims the EV9-like swivel seats and roomy interior create a “space for coexistence” with nature, people and technology, but some features likely won’t make it to the production version.
Kia will launch a production model of the EV5 first in China later this year, and the global market will be “made appropriately.” The EV5 will succeed Kia’s EV6 as part of Kia’s latest foray into China.
