I would like to post about how to use Socar, a leading car sharing service.
In Seoul, public transportation is so good that you rarely need to drive.
I think I use Socar when I go out or drive around Seoul with my friends.
In fact, Socar has been so well known that it has been a long time since I installed the app.
This is my first time using it.
1. Sign up
First, download the app, follow the membership registration process, and complete the process by getting your driver’s license verified.
The basic qualifications for using SoCar are drivers who are 21 years of age or older and who have obtained their driver’s license for more than 1 year.
I will omit the description of the basic procedures above.
2-1. Make a Reservation – Search Soca Zone
When making a vehicle reservation, you can specify where you want to pick up the vehicle, the date, and the time of use.
Once you set the reservation conditions, you can find the Soca Zone (rental location) in the address search box or on the map.
If there is a specific car model you want, you can set reservation conditions by selecting the car model first.
Soca has many designated Soca zones, so you can use it conveniently.
What if there is no Soca Zone in the place I want to use?
You can call a vehicle to that location using the call rental service.
The calling service is available for both round trip and one way. (additional fees may apply)
2-2. Select car model
Select the vehicle you wish to rent from Socar Zone’s vehicle list.
Also, the driving fee varies slightly depending on the vehicle, so be sure to check!
2-3. Set use time & select vehicle damage waiver product
Next, you need to set the vehicle use time. Select the date first and then
You can use it like a rental car for short distances of at least 30 minutes or up to 28 days.
Reservations must be made at least 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours in advance.
Lastly, you must pay insurance premiums for vehicle damage waiver products, that is, in case of an accident while driving.
It is better to choose a deductible of up to 50,000 won. You don’t know what will happen, and the difference in insurance premiums is small.
In the past, I lost 300,000 won in a minor accident while riding Socar with an acquaintance.
After that, I always choose the maximum amount of 50,000 won.
After that, you can check your payment information and apply the coupon to complete your reservation!
3. Use coupon & complete reservation
If your reservation has been successfully completed, you will receive a reservation completion message from Socar!
Since it was my first time using it, I used a coupon called <10,000 won for 24 hours>.
First-time Soca customers are given several discount coupons.
A 24-hour 10,000 won coupon does not necessarily mean that you can drive for 10,000 won.
This simply means that the amount of money you have to rent a car is 10,000 won. -Vehicles priced at 10,000 won vary depending on the vehicle type.
Driving fees and insurance premiums must be paid separately.
My initial reservation amount, excluding driving fees and including insurance, was about 26,000 won.

※ How to register as a SoCar passenger driver!
Once you have completed your vehicle reservation, you can register as a companion driver.
Eligibility conditions include being a Socar member, being 21 years of age or older, and having obtained a driver’s license for at least 1 year.
You can also register through the app up to 10 minutes before the reservation starts, and if you register on the app and the other person accepts it, it’s complete!
To use the vehicle, co-drivers must ride with the person making the reservation.
If you are caught driving alone, you will be fined, so please refrain from doing so!
※ What if I want to change the SoCar return location?
Lastly, what should I do if I want to change the vehicle return location?
If the reservation has not yet started, you can change the reservation, but in this case, you must cancel the reservation and try again.
What if you have started a reservation and are driving, but want to change the return address?
You must contact the customer center by phone or request approval through SoKaTalk inquiry.
