1. #Gamgok Maegoe Seongmo Pilgrimage Site Cathedral
10 Seongdang-gil, Gamgok-myeon, Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk

This cathedral was established in 1896 by Father Im Camillo. It was the home of Empress Myeongseong’s older brother Min Eung-sik, and he earnestly prayed to the Lord for the land. A few years later, he purchased the surrounding area and established the cathedral. It was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and became Gamgok Maegoe Seongmo Pilgrimage Site Cathedral, and Bishop Jang Bong-hoon designated it as Gamgok Maegoe Seongmo Pilgrimage Site Cathedral.

2. #Gongsanjeong House

This is a cultural experience space created in a closed school in Eumseong, where artists move in to create art pieces and experience and exhibit them, so it’s a place where you can feel living culture and art. If you were to pick 5 places to see in Eumseong, these would be the places to choose

5. Yangchon Kwon Geun’s 3rd generation tomb and memorial tablet
377-15 Neungan-ro, Saenggeuk-myeon, Eumseong-gun

The tombs of Yangchon Kwon Geun, a civil servant and scholar from the late Goryeo Dynasty to the early Joseon Dynasty, Kwon Geun’s second son, a civil servant and scholar from the Joseon Dynasty, Kwon Je, and his grandson, a civil servant and scholar, are located here. And on the right side, there are the memorial stones of Kwon Geun, Kwon Je, and Kwon Ram. (I didn’t go there)

6. Sureuisan Natural Recreation Forest
47-1 San, Chagok-ri, Saenggeuk-myeon, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do

The legendary spring where the legend of the tomb of Prime Minister Kwon Geun of the Joseon Dynasty, Yangchon, and the Sangyeobawi Rock and Byeongpungbawi Rock are handed down are beautiful scenery. (I didn’t go there)

7. #Mugeukjeonjeok National Tourist Site
594 Saengeum-daero, Eumseong-eup, Eumseong-gun

On July 4, 1950, the 7th Regiment of the 6th Division of the ROK Army and the 11th Regiment of the 1st Division of the ROK Army fought for 5 days to defeat the North Korean army that invaded Gamwoojae and Mugeuk-ri. This is the first battleground where the ROK Army won against the North Korean army during the Korean War.

8. #Mitasa #Jijangbosal Holy Land

There is the ‘Jijangjeil Doryang’ where the largest Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva statue in the East stands, and behind it is the Seated Rock-carved Buddha and Mitasa Temple.
Mitasa Temple was founded in the 8th year of Queen Jindeok’s reign in Silla (630), burned down in 1723, and was rebuilt by Monk Myeongan in 1965.

9. Samhyeongje Reservoir
This refers to Mugeuk, Geumseok, and Yonggye Reservoir in Eumseong, which are three separate reservoirs connected to each other, so the water level is constant.
Mugeuk Reservoir is surrounded by mountains and has beautiful scenery,
Geumseok Reservoir has clear water and many aquatic plants, so it is often visited by anglers,
Yonggye Reservoir is located in front of Baekya Natural Recreation Forest and is easily accessible.

10. Bonghak-gol Forest Bathing Area
138 Yonggwang-ro 230beon-gil, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do

There are various forest rest areas and facilities such as a sculpture park, botanical garden, nature learning center, and water park. (I haven’t been there)

11. #Gaseopsa Temple
1-2 Yongsan-ri, Eumseong-eup, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do

It was founded by Naong in 1365 (14th year of King Gongmin’s reign) ~ 1376 (2nd year of King U’s reign). It was completely burned down during the Imjin War and rebuilt by Byeokam.
It was rebuilt by chief priest Yoon Won-geun after it collapsed in 1938. It is located high on the mountain, so you can see Eumseong City at a glance.
It is secretly high, and you have to go up and down steep slopes, so inexperienced drivers should be careful.

12. #Eumseonghyanggyo
223 Jungang-ro, Eumseong-eup, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do (Eupnae-ri)

It was first established in 1560 (14th year of King Myeongjong’s reign) in Seokin-ri, Eumseong-eup as a national educational institution during the Joseon Dynasty. It was destroyed during the Imjin War and moved to its current location in 1647.
The front is divided into an educational institution and the back into a space to honor the sages.
It seems that the doors are not open except for the spring and fall ancestral rites.

13. Eumseong Living Culture Center
10-7 Seolseong Park-gil, Eumseong-eup, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Eumseong-gun Local Folklore Data Exhibition Hall

Near Seolseong Park, there are also exhibition and multipurpose rooms, resident-friendly spaces, and spaces for music and sports.

14. #Ungok Seowon

Yongseong-ri, Samseong-myeon, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do

In 1602 (35th year of King Seonjo’s reign), Chungju Moksa Jeong Gu-gi renamed Baekun Seodang to Ungok Seowon, and enshrined the ancestral tablet of Juja.

As expected, the door is rarely open. You can only see it over the fence.

15. #Baekya Natural Recreation Forest
Baekya-ri, Geumwang-eup, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do

A recreation forest created on June 30, 2011, with a camping site, a house in the forest, a water park, and a wood experience center.

16. #Pumba Regeneration Art Experience Village

A place where you can experience various things through regeneration art, considering ‘Pumba’, the content of Eumseong, and the environment. Various junk art pieces are displayed in the front yard.

It was created to improve the landscape and increase income of the rural village passing by the Pumba Regeneration Art Experience Village.

There is a lotus field, camping site, fishing spot, etc.
