This is shocking news. A study showed that omega-3, which is known to be good for blood vessel health, has little effect in preventing cardiovascular disease. However, there were also research results that contradicted this. According to a research team at Harvard University’s School of Public Health in the U.S., a study was published showing that “among omega-3s, DPA, DHA, and EPA+DHA reduced the risk of atrial fibrillation, a cardiovascular disease in which the atria contract irregularly, by about 7-13%.” There are also studies showing that omega-3 helps the lungs, not the cardiovascular system. A research team led by Professor Patricia Cassano of Nutrition at Cornell University found that the higher the level of omega-3 fatty acids in the blood, the slower the decline in lung function. So what should I do? Six medical organizations in the United States recommended the Mediterranean diet. This is a method of consuming a lot of lean protein, such as plant-based foods and fish, and consuming less foods high in saturated fat, such as red meat. It was explained that the Mediterranean diet helps reduce cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, high blood pressure, and obesity.
