That’s why we often leave our wallets behind, but there are probably many embarrassing moments when we don’t have the most important identification (resident registration card, driver’s license). Today, I would like to introduce mobile ID to solve these moments.
Mobile ID (resident registration card) has the same effect as the existing physical resident registration card pursuant to Article 25 of the Resident Registration Act, and can be used only on one mobile phone in the person’s name so that it can be used without risk of theft, rental, or forgery. .
Mobile resident registration cards can be issued to citizens over the age of 17 who have been issued a resident registration card, if their physical resident registration card is in good condition and they are using a mobile phone in their name.
Issuing a mobile resident registration card requires a total of three steps, and you must also have a mobile phone in your name.
The mobile driver’s license is the same as the resident registration card above and has the same effect as a physical driver’s license. It is used for identification purposes like a resident registration card, and can be used everywhere (public institutions, banks, rental car companies, airports, hospitals, convenience stores, telecommunications companies, elections, etc. where current driver’s licenses are used) just like the real thing.
Anyone who has obtained a driver’s license can issue one, and in addition, foreigners residing in Korea who have an alien registration card may also be issued one.
Regarding the issuance of a mobile driver’s license (IC driver’s license), please visit the nearest driver’s license test center or police station’s civil service office and it will be issued after identity verification.
Application for IC driver’s license (safe driving integrated civil service)
If there is a mobile ID icon at the bottom of the photo of your physical driver’s license, it is an IC driver’s license. If not, a new mobile driver’s license will be issued.
You can receive a mobile driver’s license by touching the received IC driver’s license to the back of your smartphone and verifying your identity. The way to obtain a driver’s license on-site by visiting the driver’s license test center is to take a photo of the information pattern (QR) installed at the test center window and receive it through a mobile ID app. The issuance fee is 1,000 won.
To obtain an IC driver’s license, you must replace your current driver’s license with an IC driver’s license with an IC chip embedded in it. The replacement cost is 13,000 won. If lost, an IC license can be reissued without a return visit to the institution.
Like the resident registration card, the mobile driver’s license cannot be used on more than one mobile communication terminal. When replacing a smartphone / changing the physical driver’s license (reissue, etc.) / the mobile driver’s license validity period (3 years) has elapsed, the IC driver’s license can be used. You must apply for a new one-time issuance QR code at the same time or at the site (driver’s license test center or police station).
